ELEME Petrochemical Plant, Africa
ELEME Petrochemical Plant in Nigeria, Africa is protected with LPI’s direct-strike air terminals.
Industrial plants rely on sensitive control systems that are highly vulnerable to surges. LPI reduces downtime, minimises fire risk in hazardous areas, and maintains the safe, resilient operations that keep production running, from refineries to manufacturing lines.

The risk
Induced transients move through interconnected systems at the speed of light, reaching motors, circuit boards, networks and safety instrumentation within microseconds.
Control systems, motors, transformers and circuit boards degrade under repeated surges driving costly repairs.
Surges take out telephone, internet and radio, isolating plant operators from control rooms and external support.
Strike-induced failures in hazardous-material facilities can cause chemical spills or fugitive emissions.
Surges corrupt or destroy data on servers, historians and SCADA archives, affecting compliance reporting.

Protection Plan
Well-designed systems protect people, infrastructure and automation together, never in isolation.
Protect critical assets against direct lightning strikes.
Protect equipment against incoming surges and transients.
Provide a low impedance reference earth and bond all conductive elements to minimise voltage differences.

As world leaders in all aspects of lightning protection, LPI / PhysElec was engaged to carry out lightning protection audits of 26 LNG transportation, distribution and processing sites in Vietnam over a period of 4 years. These audits involved detailed inspections, testing and measurements across the three keys areas of direct-strike lightning protection, surge and transient protection, and earthing & bonding.

A new industrial development is planned in northern Tasmania, involving new buildings for multiple industrial manufacturers. Our consultants conducted thorough on-site investigations and soil resistivity tests to gather necessary data for the earthing design. Using CDEGS software, they tailored an earthing design to meet project requirements. After installation, current injection testing will verify system impedance, earth potential rise etc. and assess step, touch and transfer voltages across the site.

The Brief
Name of construction: Direct strike & Power line protection system for data center system of YANLAND Building in Ho Chi Minh city
Name of investor: YANLAND Co., Ltd at District 7, Ho Chi Minh City
Products have supplied for this project: Stormaster-ESE & HVSCPLUS, accessories for direct strike protection system and SF31000-480-110+50-AIMCB for power line protection system.
The year of project start & completion: 2018 / 2020
The Outcome
In addition to the standard requirement to use a dedicated HVSC Plus 8-layer noise escape cable and LPI/Australia ESE lightning rod to protect lightning protection directly for the Data center system according to ANSI / TIA-942, the quality of ac power input for the system is equally important, the system must use a surge protection device with 2 functions that both Cut and Filter the lightning pulse of LPI / Australia up to the load current 1000A, the device will protect 2 layers of lightning cutting and 1 layer of lightning filter, this lightning filter is connected to the load.
LPI/Australia's lightning filter will protect the lightning spread on the input power supply and ensure the power waveform quality for the load after the lightning pulse cutting and filtering function is completed.
At the Data Center of The Yanland Office Building, Hoang Kim Co., Ltd consulted, designed and provided comprehensive lightning protection system from Direct surge protection to spread and AC power input of data center system which has been protected by 3 phase 1000A dedicated 3 phase surge protector Model: SF31000-480-110+50-AIMCB of LPI/Australia provided by our company.
